Green Pastures: Farm-to-Table dining at Shang Plaza

Fresh, organic, and locally-sourced ingredients take center stage at farm-to-table restaurant Green Pastures, located at the Shangri-La Plaza East Wing. Owned by Chef Robby Goco of Cyma restaurant fame, Green Pastures was hailed by many as one of the best new restaurants of 2013. The restaurant took the metro dining scene by storm with its back-to-basics approach, producing unique dishes that celebrate the stunning tastes of simply-prepared food.

I was lucky enough to have been able to sample some of its delicious offerings before my date with the new Godzilla movie yesterday. Let me tell you, no other quest of mine for organic farm-based food has ever been more rewarding.

I immediately fell in love with the restaurant’s farmhouse charm. The entrance’s warm wooden exterior and garden-inspired wall display were very welcoming.

They have an open kitchen (seen above) and a salad bar on the other side of the garden wall display.

The brightly-colored chairs stood out against the restaurant’s dark brown walls, tables, and shutters.

Since you’re probably wondering about the food, here are some of my highly recommended dishes:

  • Stracciatella  buffalo milk cheese pulled daily, extra virgin olive oil, & fresh arugula (P325 + 10% service charge)

The fresh buffalo milk flavor of the cheese really shines through, and it goes very well with the crisp arugula & toasted bread.

  • Duck You!  duck fat fries, duck skin chicharon, & duck confit served with sherry vinegar (P185 + 10% service charge)

Guilty pleasure alert! I loved how decadent this dish was. Each and every bite explodes with the rich, melt-in-your-mouth flavor of duck fat.

I recommend eating the duck confit with the bread and stracciatella. It’s delicious!

  • MilkEggsHoney  organic white honeycomb, homemade Greek yoghurt, & citrus curd (P155 + 10% service charge)

This was my first time trying organic white honeycomb, and I loved its sweetness paired with the tart yoghurt. However, I found the citrus curd a little bit overpowering for my taste.

  • Organic Melon Green Tea  by the glass (P100 + 10% service charge)

I’m not really a fan of melon drinks but this tasted very light and refreshing!

Long story short, I absolutely fell in love with this restaurant at first sight (and first bite!). The restaurant provides its customers with spectacular dishes that are light, healthy, and completely free of any additives and commercially-packaged goods.

With its locally-sourced, farm-to-table dishes and cozy interior, I can say that this was one food experience worth remembering, and of course, repeating. I had found greener pastures in the middle of a chaotic city simply by dining here. You’ll probably see me again here soon, as there are a lot of wonderful dishes on their menu that I would love to try.

Oh, and one last piece of advice! Try getting a table by the window if you enjoy the view of Shangri-La and the city. Cheers!

Thank you!! ^_^ You’ll enjoy it, I’m sure. Sometimes lang the wait can be a bit long, especially when the place is packed with customers. 🙂

I thought this is a vegetarian restaurant based on the name. Are there many vegetarian options?

Hi there! If you’re looking for strictly vegan options (even dairy products are excluded) there are a few. The appetizer section has 3 vegetarian items, plus a DIY salad option served with roasted tofu.

When it comes to the main course page, there is one vegan hamburger and some veggie soups. There are pastas that have only vegetables and cheese, but maybe you can try and request that they not include the cheese. There are also a few in the dessert menu.

Not really a lot, considering the menu is three pages long. I think the name refers more to its farm-to-table and organic approach and not necessarily being vegan. But here’s their menu: https://www.facebook.com/greenpasturesresto/app_190322544333196 so you can check out which dishes you’d like and are fit for vegetarians 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
